IRW 30th Anniversary Reception and Colloquium

The IRW is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a reception and display at the Douglass Library's Mabel Smith Douglass Room on Thursday, April 10, 4:30-6:00 p.m.  On Friday, April 11 at the Ruth Dill Johnson Crockett Building, former IRW directors, Rockefeller Resident Fellows in the Humanities, and affiliate members will participate in panel discussions considering the past, present and future of interdisciplinary feminist research.

More information about our plans is available online.  Please complete the online registration form (available Friday March 7) and join us for two days of provocative discussion and lively insights.

The IRW's Pilot Learning Community

This Spring, the IRW Learning Community is providing opportunities for Rutgers juniors and seniors to meet with IRW-affiliated faculty and guest lecturers and engage them in conversations about the inspirations, challenges and outcomes of their work. Thus, while focusing on their own research and activism on communities, IRW LC Scholars are learning from leaders in the field. IRW Learning Community Scholars will present the results of their semester-long projects to the public on Friday, April 25, 2008.  Please contact Abigail Lewis, IRW LC Coordinator, for more information.

In partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Education, the IRW is hosting a meeting on Tuesday, May 13, to discuss how Rutgers research centers, bureaus and institutes can create learning communities which build on the unique intellectual strengths of CBIs.  Please contact the IRW for more information or to join the conversation.

Faculty Forum on Violence Against Women and Children

With the Center on Violence against Women & Children (VAWC) at the Rutgers School of Social Work, the IRW is cosponsoring a faculty forum on Friday, May 9 to bring together faculty from diverse campuses, schools, disciplines and departments relating to violence against women and children.  The primary goal is to provide an informal environment that facilitates collaboration and flow of ideas among Rutgers faculty. Please contact Judy L. Postmus, VAWC Director or Sarah McMahon, VAWC Associate Director for more information.

Past Programs

In addition to convening the weekly seminar, organizing related lecture series and hosting visiting scholars, the IRW hosts a variety of colloquia, conferences, informal talks and groups of international visitors.

Some of our past events have covered topics such as diversity, health, migration, feminist activism, feminist academics and labor. Our programs are international in scope, but also address current issues within the University community.

We often work with a diverse range of co-sponsors, some of which have included: the Departments of English, History, Labor Studies and Employment Relations and Women's & Gender Studies; Center for the Critical Analysis of Contemporary Culture; Center for Latino Arts and Culture; Center for Historical Analysis; International Labor and Working-Class History (ILWCH); Asian American Cultural Center and the Institute for Women’s Leadership.
