Is it possible to bridge scholarly and general audiences? What kinds of narrative styles appeal to broader audiences? How does one break into trade publishing? Arlene Stein, a sociologist who recently published a trade book, will share strategies for writing for general audiences.



  • Arlene Stein is Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Director of the Institute for Research on Women. She is the author, most recently, of Going Public: A Guide for Social Scientists (University of Chicago, 2017) and Unbound: Transgender Men and the Remaking of Identity  (Knopf, 2018).
