Developing Your Academic Presence on Twitter

In the decade since its inception, the social media platform Twitter has gone from experiment in microblogging to well-established site for social and professional organization and networking. Among its 300 million-plus users are thousands of academics who use it build and maintain social connections and friendships; conduct research; share and spread ideas, publications, and works-in-progress; teach and engage students in and out of the classroom; document talks, meetings and conferences; and network with like-minded others. In this workshop, Prof. Mary Chayko will review some of the affordances, opportunities, and consequences of Twitter for academics, and will demonstrate techniques for building and expanding an academic presence on Twitter. Strategies, policies, and best practices for the safe, productive, effective use of Twitter will be discussed. Participants need not have expertise or experience on Twitter but should sign up for a Twitter account prior to the workshop.

This workshop is limited to 24 participants. To register,  please fill out the form here.
