The Institute for Research on Women invites all undergraduates to apply to its Fall 2021 Virtual Learning Community, "Futures: Another World Is Possible." Given the overwhelming problems facing the planet (from climate change and a global pandemic to ongoing racial violence and political polarization), this class will imagine alternative possibilities for the future. What kind of creative solutions can foster real and meaningful change? How are scientists, artists, thinkers, activists, and young people around the world mobilizing for social justice? How can we nurture one another with empathy and respect, even as we acknowledge and honor our anger?
This Learning Community will be asynchronous remote. As a discussion-based, 1.5 credit seminar, it will be a creative space to unwind from the pressures of our daily lives, build strong community, attend virtual IRW lectures, field trips, and livestream events, take part in digital technology workshops, teach one another healthy practices for "pandemic survival" and self-care, and work on mini-research projects.
