Eva Illouz is Professor of Sociology at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, France. Her research focuses on the sociology of capitalism, the sociology of emotions, the sociology of gender, and the sociology of culture. She is the author of 18 books, translated into 23 languages, including Cold Intimacies: The Making of Emotional Capitalism (Polity Press, 2007), The Emotional Life of Populism: How Fear, Disgust, Resentment, and Love Undermine Democracy (Polity Press, 2023), and Explosive Emotions: How Modern Society Shapes What We Feel (Princeton University Press, 2026). She is the recipient of numerous international awards, including the A.M.T. Award for Lifetime Achievement and Research Excellence (2018), the Aby Warburg Award (2024), and the Hebrew University President’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2025).
