Are you exploring a new area of research relating to gender and sexuality, and looking for others to partner with? Would you like to sponsor a speaker or panel related to feminist issues and concerns? The Institute for Research on Women (IRW) supports working groups that seek to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary research on women, gender, and sexuality at Rutgers. We are now accepting proposals from faculty and graduate students who are interested in collaborating with others in a variety of different ways.
In addition to research clusters, we also support projects that build bridges between researchers and activists, involve public scholarship, and encourage professional development. IRW currently supports groups working on carceral studies (exploring carcerality from feminist, queer, and decolonial perspectives), feminist pedagogies (addressing classroom practices as well as at theory), and the politics of science and technology (examined through the lens of gender, race, sexuality, and disability). IRW has also supported reading groups and dissertation writing groups. The topics of working groups are open, and may also involve building skills such as grant writing or organizing. We welcome the chance to nurture innovative ideas both big and small. IRW is able to support several working groups simultaneously and will provide financial support for speakers, materials, and publicity for between one semester and two academic years. IRW is also able to provide meeting space and logistical support. Proposals for working groups should provide the following information:
• A 1-page description of the Working Group’s project and goals
• A tentative schedule for the Working Group’s activities and associated budget
• A list of participants, drawn from different disciplines or departments
• The current CVs of the individuals who will lead the group
IRW advances innovative feminist scholarship on women, gender, and sexuality. Its Distinguished Lecture Series, yearlong seminar, and undergraduate learning community are connected to an annual theme, which is "Public Catastrophes, Private Losses" for 2018-19. IRW’s affiliate members include Rutgers faculty, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates drawn from the New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden campuses, and feminist researchers from around the world who join IRW as Visiting Global Scholars.
