You Are Now Beyond Hope

I'm in that part of the country
where God is an adjective
He is a passing billboard &
She is a handwritten sign
All those open smiles
locked and loaded
Keep your tongue sweet
as the whole hive
Everything stings in
these desert edge towns
I wonder what they'd
name her compromise
It’s a dotted line impossibility
constellations mixed up in water
Seventy one percent sure
they live on the ground
